Community

We are proud of the very positive difference our staff have made to local and national voluntary sector organisations across the UK through cash and in-kind support. Recent key activities in our Community Investment Programme have included:

  • Enabling all staff to vote for our 2009-2011 UK Group Charity partner. The winning charity, Children’s Hospices UK, is the national voice of all UK children's hospices. Their vision is for all life-limited children, young people and their families to have access to the best quality children's hospice care close to home and we look forward to helping them make their vision a reality.

  • As a major Basingstoke employer, we will be increasing support for projects in our local community and the surrounding area.
  • One such project is May Place Hostel which works with vulnerable local homeless people and provides accommodation, emotional support, help with returning to education or work and also a drop-in service for practical items such as blankets.  Our support will include help with refurbishment projects and skill development initiatives through staff volunteering and organising donations of essential items like clothing and cups.
  • We are also a founding member of the Basingstoke Community Foundation and will be working with the Foundation to provide donations to grass roots community projects based locally to Basingstoke.  It is expected that the Foundation will be operational by January 2010.

  • Engaging our staff in volunteering.  In February 2009 a team of 20 staff transformed a run down bungalow into a multipurpose warm and welcoming Family Centre.  We also donated games and consoles which were very well received by the staff and children!  The West Midlands based Centre managed by national children’s charity, Action for Children, provides counselling and recreational facilities to vulnerable young people.  As you can see from the photos, the GAME team felt very proud and privileged to be associated with such a terrific project.
