Internet shopping day roaring success for GAME

29/07/2003

GAME.uk.com, the online arm of GAME, Europe’s leading specialist retailer of video games and computer software, today announces that the 24x7 campaign to mark Internet Shopping Day on 24 July 2003 was a staggering success for the on-line retailer.

GAME took part in the initiative by running a 24 hour promotion with a new product on offer each hour, starting with the first title priced at £24. A new title appeared on offer every hour with each subsequent product £1 cheaper than the last.

The average saving across the 24 hour period on all products was an amazing 48% off the usual GAME website price.

The top three games that sold out in the fastest time were:

  1. 0 seconds - SOCOM: Navy Seals on Sony PlayStation 2, priced at £1.
  2. 10 minutes - Crimson Sea on Microsoft Xbox, priced at £9.
  3. 11 minutes - Ty the Tasmanian Tiger on Nintendo GameCube, priced at £7.

GAME had 6 staff working on the promotion from start to finish, and experienced 3.5 times more site traffic than would be expected on a usual Thursday.

Dave Evans, New Media Director said “We are absolutely delighted with how well this promotion worked for GAME. We experienced a 320% sales increase which is an unprecedented figure for us (outside of Christmas trading of course!).

“It shows that if a company like ourselves is as innovative with their promotions, as with the products they sell, then customers respond to the original ideas. We weren’t clearing old stock either, the 24 products on offer were all on next-generation consoles, for PC or were DVD films, and were already selling well before the start of the promotion. At the end of the day we wanted to offer our customers something unique, and I think we’ve certainly achieved that goal.”
