GAME.net sees April sales surge

11/05/2004

GAME’s first online “Bargain Idol” promotion, held during April was a great triumph, with many products selling out within the first hour on sale.

The promotion was branded ‘Deal of the Day’, on GAME’s e-commerce website, www.GAME.net. Customers voted for their favourite of a possible three products, which could then be bought the next day for a promotional price.

The top three games with the most votes were:

1. Mario Kart: Double Dash on GameCube, offer price £19.99
2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on Xbox, offer price £19.99
3. Splinter Cell Pandora’s Tomorrow on Xbox, offer price £21.99

During the fourth week of the promotion, GAME teased its customers with the promise of a mystery product. Customers were feeling daring, and the mystery product won the vote – EyeToy: Groove and camera, with an offer price of only £4.99 (RRP £39.99), which sold out in record time.

The following games sold out in the quickest time period:

1. 2 minutes 20 secs - EyeToy: Groove & camera (mystery product) on PS2, priced at £4.99
2. 4 minutes - Mario Kart: Double Dash on GameCube, priced at £19.99
3. 7 minutes – Unreal Tournament 2004 on PC, priced at £13.99

GAME.net New Media Director Dave Evans said, “We’re very pleased with the results of our April Deal of the Day promotion. It is clear that customers are looking for more exciting promotions online.”

“With a combination of our voting process, our innovative mystery product and the low prices on top products, we’re giving customers what they want.”

“The very short times that most products were available sparked a huge level of interest.”

“What’s more, we saw a significant sales increase online during the month of the promotion, based on the same period last year.”

This is the third themed instalment of GAME.net’s popular Deal of the Day series – though this is the first to include interactive voting. Previous campaigns in July 2003 (the 24x7 campaign, to mark internet shopping day), and in October ’03 (a 24 hour Halloween bonanza), generated a huge public response.
