GAME sees reward with European loyalty

13/08/2004

GAME, Europe’s favourite video games retailer, has just reached over 5 million Reward Card members in the schemes in the UK, Ireland and France.

This month (August) the retailer launched the loyalty programme into Sweden, the fourth territory. The Group currently has over 35 stores in Sweden, including the 1,300 sq ft flagship store in Taby.

GAME has invested a significant amount of resource and budget into upgrading the tills and software in all stores, to prepare for the launch. Training has also been provided to make sure store staff are familiar with the new systems. The project will be promoted with marketing pos in all stores. Marketing activity will include new materials in shelf strips, stickers, A5 flyers, A4 poster sites and card application forms.

The Reward Card was launched in the UK and Ireland in 1997 and in France in October 2003. After only 10 months, GAME has seen over 300,000 members sign up to the scheme in France across the 58 stores in the country, exceeding initial period forecasts.

Marc Spence, MD Europe said “The launch of the Reward Card scheme in Sweden follows the successful introduction of the card in France in 2003, and we’re hoping to enjoy the same outcome in Sweden over the coming months.”

“The use of the programme across all countries enables us to be much more strategic and targeted in our marketing strategy and customer offering, providing a better service to our customers. In addition, both schemes in France and Sweden work on instant redemption, which has been well received by our customers.”

“Together with our store opening programme, the relocation of our head office in France, and the roll out of the Reward Card, we’re ideally positioned to grow our Continental businesses in the rest of 2004 and into 2005.”

The Group is anticipating launching the successful loyalty scheme in other European territories in the future.
