Expansion continues at GAME

2005 sees the start of another store opening programme at GAME, Europe’s largest specialist video games retailer.
The Group is about to open its 400th store in the UK and Ireland in the new Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin. The brand new centre in the south of the city opens its doors for the first time at 10am on Thursday 3rd March, with the 120 sq m GAME store on the top floor.
Over the last 3 years GAME has added over 100 stores in continental Europe with acquisitions and openings in Scandinavia, Spain and France.
At the same time the Group has added over 100 stores in the UK and Ireland, with 2004 being a record year for openings seeing some 40 added in locations such as Folkestone, Islington and Edinburgh as well as key locations including Galway and Monaghan.
A total of 20-25 stores are expected to open across the UK and Ireland in 2005, and this year will also see GAME increase it’s presence in existing European countries, with openings in Orleans, Nice and across Paris (France), and in Barcelona and across Madrid (Spain).
Nick Martel, Group Property Director at GAME said “In 2004 we opened another 40 stores in the UK and Ireland – a record number. The current scale of our business in both the UK and in Europe reflects the huge and growing popularity of games with today’s consumers.”
The Group is positioning itself for the next generation of console launches, the first of which is Nintendo’s handheld DS (Dual Screen), due to be released on 11 March.
