150 GAME stores open at midnight to launch NINTENDO DS

Europe’s largest video games retailer GAME will open 150 stores in the UK and Ireland at midnight on Thursday (10 March into Friday 11 March), to launch the latest ‘must have’ video games console – the Nintendo DS (Dual Screen).
Thousands of customers have pre-ordered the handheld consoles from specialist chain GAME, many of whom will be out at midnight to pick up the hi-tech gadgets. A GAME store in all major towns and cities will be open to cope with demand.
The DS – a successor to the massively popular Gameboy – has already been launched in the USA and Japan, selling some 2 million units in the first few weeks.
Over eight hundred GAME staff will be working on Thursday night, to ensure their customers are the first on the train or in the playground to have a DS on Friday morning.
GAME UK Sales Director Robert Quinn said “Timing is crucial with this type of ‘must-have’ technology. We know that customers want it as soon as it’s released – and that means the minute, not the day.”
“We’re working round the clock so that our customers will be the first to play the DS. Video games are massively popular in the UK, and new launches attract a lot of excitement.”
“The DS is a huge step forward for portable gaming. The technology is fantastic, and there’s an excellent choice of games. We’ve been demonstrating them in our stores recently, and customers love the quality of the graphics and sound – and the fact that they can link wirelessly to other DS players around them.”

150 of the 400 GAME stores in the UK & Ireland will open at midnight on Thursday 10th March into the early hours of Friday morning. Most of the UK stores will also open early (7 or 8am) on Friday. The Nintendo DS sells for £99.99.
